Poreč is unique historical jewel of Istria. The town of Poreč is an exceptional example of a small town developed in Romanesque architecture with subsequently built beautiful Venetian Gothic palaces. Poreč reached its peak during the reign of the Byzantine emperor Justinian, which is reflected in Poreč's most valuable and impressive cultural monument of early Byzantine art in the Mediterranean. It is listed in UNESCOs world heritage list from 1997. The most beautiful fragments are its mosaics, which are considered to be amongst the finest examples of Byzantine art in the world.
